Meet the Teachers

Miss Sturdivant, Mrs. Keck, Mrs. Batson, Mrs. Burris and Mrs. Knott
Mrs. Batson
I am very passionate about teaching and I have always known that I wanted to be a teacher! I am so thrilled to be teaching 5th grade Language Arts and Bible at Lipscomb Academy; it is my dream job! As a student at Lipscomb University and while student teaching at LA, I learned to appreciate the blessing of Christian education. Lipscomb is truly home and such a special place!  I value the opportunity to teach and motivate children each day and watch them grow and learn. My goal is to create a positive learning environment and instill a love for learning through memorable and engaging activities.

I was born and grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. I was an active member of Homewood Church of Christ in Birmingham and now attend Harpeth Hills. I am a true southern girl with a love for God, my family and friends, reading, good food, and Auburn football! I came to Lipscomb University in 2008 and fell in love with Lipscomb and Nashville! I also met my husband, Blake, at Lipscomb and we will celebrate our third anniversary in November. I was a cheerleader at LU and now coach the middle school football cheerleaders and work with our middle school student government.  I completed my Master's Degree in Teaching, Learning, and Leading in 2014 and recieved a certification in Instructional Coaching this summer. I am looking forward to my sixth year of teaching!

Mrs. Burris
I am delighted to be teaching my twenty-first year in fifth grade at Lipscomb Academy. As a Lipscomb Lifer, it's been a true blessing to work in such a wonderful, supportive environment. Language Arts is my passion, and I am excited about the opportunities I have to share with my students and with other teachers at various conferences and with student teachers.  Working with our fifth graders and encouraging them to love learning and to appreciate their differences are challenges that I look forward to.  Teaching Bible is a vital part of encouraging my students to learn to love and serve others as we all strive to walk with God.

Nashville natives, my husband Doug and I attend Granny White Church of Christ. My interests include reading, sewing, quilting, and knitting. We love to take day trips and  enjoy beautiful days in our convertible! I earned my Master's Degree in 2005.  We are an education family : my father taught at Lipscomb for 41 years and now my daughter teaches for McKenzie Middle School while my husband provides technology support for three Metro Schools.

Mrs. Keck
I feel so blessed to be a part of the Lipscomb Academy community after spending 6 years at Lipscomb University both as a student-athlete and an employee. It truly is a special place! I grew up in Knoxville, Tennessee (Go Vols!) with lots of family and a love for the mountains. My husband, Dalton, is also from Knoxville, but we did not meet until we got to Lipscomb University! Last summer we got married on his family's farm and we are now living in Franklin and loving it! We enjoy running, traveling, reading, being involved at Brentwood Hills, and basically anything outdoors!

Middle schoolers are near and dear to my heart because of the two years that I spent working with the Hillsboro Youth Group at the Hillsboro Church of Christ here in Nashville. This is such a formative, sweet time in their lives, and I take my role as their teacher very seriously. I consider teaching my calling and I hope to partner with you and the Lord this year to serve, love, and challenge your child in the best possible way!

Mrs. Knott
I am very excited about this school year.  This begins my thirty-fifth year of teaching fifth grade at Lipscomb Academy.  I love my fifth graders.  I grew up in a small country town of Eagleville in Rutherford County.  I graduated from David Lipscomb College in 1974 with a Degree in Home Economics Education. I then returned to school after my three older children started to school and got my Elementary Education Endorsement so I could teach at Lipscomb and have my children in a Christian school.  I then went on to receive my masters in Curriculum and Instruction from Tennessee State.   I have been married to my husband, Michael Knott, for forty-five years.  Michael is one of the most patient men in the world. We have four children. Michael, Jr. who is in the navy as a nuclear reactor specialist, Karen who has just finished her doctorate in Education and is a dean of instruction for teachers in Metro, David is a construction superintendent, and Mackenzie, who has taught in Metro Schools for six years.  I also have six beautiful grandchildren, Grace, Isabella, Samuel, Solomon, Sadie Mae, and Mitchell.  Michael and I worship at Brentwood Hills Church of Christ.

Miss Sturdivant
I am so excited to be teaching 5th grade Social Studies and Bible this year! This will be my third year teaching in the classroom. I taught 4th grade at LAES my first year and this will be my second year in 5th grade at LAMS. I love the Lipscomb family and the community! I am very passionate about student’s learning and success. I love History and love using multiple forms of learning. Being able to teach Bible and share freely about God’s love for all of us is such a humbling experience. I want to help guide students to their full mind, body, and soul potential.

I grew up in a town right outside of Memphis, called Bartlett, TN. My parents still live there with my brother and my four-legged sister, Belle. She is a golden retriever and rules the household. My brother is studying Pre-med at The University of Memphis. My family and I are huge Memphis fans! Go Tigers!! I grew up playing sports and thankfully that led me to Lipscomb University, where I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. I played softball for four years at the University and now coach the high school softball team here at Lipscomb Academy. I am looking forward to my third year of teaching!

We are so excited about this year!
